Details
This product exists for one purpose: to fit the system you already run. If you have spent years working with handheld scanners and software that reads 1D barcodes, a QR code is not an alternative. Your existing hardware and software won't read it, and replacing them costs orders of magnitude more than the wristbands.
The barcode is UV printed onto a threaded rigid PVC tag. With linear barcodes this matters even more than with QR: the bars have to pass perpendicular to the scanner beam, and a flat, rigid surface makes that far more reliable than woven fabric.
One thing we'd rather say up front: 8 numeric digits is the limit. The tag offers 25 mm of printable width, and a linear barcode cannot be denser than that while staying reliably readable. With Code128 subset C that works out at 8 numeric digits, or 100 million combinations, which is ample for a single event.
If your system uses longer or alphanumeric identifiers, this is not the right product for you. There are two alternatives:
- The QR version, same wristband and tag, up to around 60 alphanumeric characters → QR Code Wristband with PVC Tag
- DataMatrix, a 2D code for dedicated readers, with considerably greater capacity
EAN-13 cannot be printed on this tag. EAN-13 is 37.3 mm wide at nominal size, and even the smallest permitted 80% magnification requires 29.8 mm. Below the 25 mm available the code would fall outside the standard and readers may reject it. If you need a retail EAN, contact us.
How production works:
- You send the code list as CSV or XLS.
- The wristbands arrive in your file's order rather than shuffled, so a grouped list stays grouped in the shipment.
With 1D barcodes we particularly recommend the serial number below the code. If a reader fails or a tag is damaged, staff can continue manually from the printed number, and with barcodes that fallback is needed more often than with QR.
The tag has two slots, one narrow and one wide, and the band is threaded through them. No rivet and no stitching means no single point that can tear out, and the tag cannot be removed from a closed wristband without cutting it.
Typical applications:
• Existing access control systems – where the hardware and software are fixed and the wristband has to fit them
• Ticketing systems – carrying a printed ticket identifier into a wearable format
• Conferences and exhibitions – attendee identification tied to a registration system
• Sporting events – competitor identifiers linked to race numbers
• Museums and visitor attractions – day tickets with multiple entries
• Catering and food service – tracking redemptions per portion
Common questions
Which barcode symbologies can you print?
Primarily Code128, using subset C for numeric identifiers. This is the most common 1D symbology in access control systems. For other symbologies, please contact us first.
Why only 8 digits?
The tag offers 25 mm of printable width. The width of a linear barcode grows with the number of characters, and beyond 8 digits the bars become so narrow that scanning turns unreliable. This is a physical limit rather than a production one.
Can you print EAN-13?
No. Even at its smallest permitted size EAN-13 requires 29.8 mm, and the tag offers 25 mm. Retail EAN codes need a different carrier.
Will it work with my existing handheld scanner?
If the device reads Code128, yes. If you are unsure, we will send a sample for testing before producing the full quantity.
