A rigid PVC tag on a 15 mm fabric wristband, with a variable QR code, barcode, full colour print or left blank. No NFC chip.
A tagged wristband has two parts: a 15 mm wide, 350 mm long sublimated fabric band, and a rigid 39 × 23 mm PVC tag threaded onto it through two slots. The tag is UV printed. Every attendee can carry a different code, or everyone can carry the same logo.
The tag exists as a separate carrier for one practical reason: on a flat, rigid surface the code always sits in the same plane, so the scanning angle matters far less. At a busy gate that is seconds per person, and at a thousand people it is the difference in queue length.
Which one do you need?
| What you want to achieve | Choose this |
|---|---|
| Every attendee needs a unique identifier, scanned by phone or reader | QR Code Wristband with PVC Tag |
| You already run a barcode access system with handheld scanners | Barcode Wristband with PVC Tag |
| You don't need a code, you need a logo, sponsor or custom design | Fabric Wristband with Printed PVC Tag |
| You already have wristbands or lanyards and only need the tag | PVC Mini Tag |
Fixed code or variable code? – this is the real decision
This is the most common misunderstanding, and it is worth settling first, because these are two entirely different products.
| Fixed code | Variable code | |
|---|---|---|
| What goes on the band | the same code on every band | a unique code on every band |
| Carrier | sublimated directly onto the fabric | UV printed onto the PVC tag |
| Best for | web link, menu, survey, WiFi access, social media, competition landing page | access control, single entry, cashless payment, VIP tiers, attendee tracking |
| Do you need a system? | no, a URL is enough | yes, a database or access control software |
| Product | Sublimated fixed code fabric wristbands → | these pages |
If you are unsure, one question settles it: if you laid two attendees' bands side by side, should they show the same code?If yes, the sublimated fixed code version solves it at a significantly lower price. If no, you need variable codes, and those go on a tag.
How the tag attaches?
The tag has two slots, one narrow and one wide. The band is threaded through them. There is no rivet, no stitching and no adhesive, and that is the point rather than a shortcut:
- It cannot tear out. There is no single stress point the way a rivet creates one; the full width of the band holds the tag.
- It cannot be removed without cutting. Once the wristband is closed, the tag cannot be unthreaded, so it cannot be passed to someone else.
- You can thread it yourself. That is why we also sell the tag on its own: it fits onto existing bands or lanyards without tools.
The slots are sized for 15 mm band width.
Why rigid PVC rather than paper or Tyvek?
Codes can be printed onto paper or Tyvek tags too, but the event industry settled on rigid plastic for good reasons.
PVC does not absorb water, does not soften, and does not tear at the slot. Over a multi-day festival the edge of a paper tag frays, the outer modules of the code can be damaged, and from that point scanning becomes unreliable.
The print cannot be removed. UV printing bonds directly to the PVC surface. You cannot scratch it off with a fingernail. It resists water, sunscreen and abrasion. Thermal printing is not comparable: it is sensitive to both heat and wear.
Finally, appearance. A rigid tag reads as professional, almost like a ticket, and gate staff treat it differently. For an organiser this is not an aesthetic question: attendees do not try to remove, hide or hand over something that visibly looks official.
What you need to know about the code?
The printable area between the slots is 25 × 20 mm. That is enough, but not unlimited, and the code grows with the length of the data:
- QR code: roughly 60 alphanumeric or 100 numeric characters scan reliably. A 10–20 character identifier is ideal.
- 1D barcode (Code128): maximum 8 numeric digits. That is 100 million combinations, plenty for a single event. If your system uses longer identifiers, choose the QR version.
- DataMatrix: carries more data in the same space than QR, but native phone camera apps do not always read it. An excellent choice for handheld scanner entry.
- Full colour artwork can use the entire tag face, 39 × 23 mm.
One tip that matters at the gate: don't put a full URL with parameters into the QR code. A short redirect link (yourdomain.com/x/AB12CD, around 20 characters) gives a much larger module size, which scans at night, in motion, and on a scratched tag. An 80 character URL produces a far denser code in the same footprint, and you will feel it in entry speed.

How variable code production works?
- You send the code list as CSV or XLS, one code per line.
- On request we also print a human-readable serial number below the code.
- Printing is single sided, in black or full colour.
- The finished wristbands arrive in the order of your data file, not shuffled.
Point four is worth dwelling on. If your code list is grouped, say the first 200 rows are VIP and the rest are general admission, the shipment arrives in that same order. Nobody has to hand-sort 5,000 wristbands, and you don't discover at the gate that the categories were mixed up.
Because you supply the code list, your database stays in your hands. You never hand over identifiers, and you never wait to get them back.
Built for events:
| Band | sublimated fabric, waterproof, stretch resistant |
| Tag | rigid PVC, will not soften or tear |
| UV, single sided, scratch resistant, will not fade | |
| Wear time | rated for multi-day events |
| Removal | cannot be opened without cutting, single use |
Frequently asked questions:
Is there an NFC chip in the tag?
No. These products are deliberately non-NFC, printed code solutions, which is exactly why they cost significantly less. If you need cashless payment or chip-based access control, see our NFC wristbands →.
How many characters fit in the QR code?
Around 60 alphanumeric or 100 numeric characters scan reliably. Longer content can be produced, but the code becomes denser and scanning slows down, particularly with phones in poor light. A short identifier or a shortened redirect link is the best choice.
Can you print an EAN-13 barcode on the tag?
No. EAN-13 is 37.3 mm wide at nominal size, and even the smallest permitted 80% magnification needs 29.8 mm. The tag offers 25 mm. If you need EAN-13, contact us and we will find a suitable carrier.
Can the tag be printed on both sides?
No, printing is single sided. The available area on one face of the tag is 39 × 23 mm, of which 25 × 20 mm sits between the slots for codes.
What format do you need the data list in?
CSV or XLS, one code per line. If you also want serial numbers printed, please supply them in a separate column.
Do I get the produced code list back?
You supply the code list, so the identifiers are already in your system. We don't return anything you don't already have. Production order matches the order of the file you sent.
Will the tag come off the band?
The band is threaded through two slots across its full width. There is no rivet or stitching to tear out. Equally, it cannot be removed without cutting.
Is the wristband reusable?
No. The closure cannot be opened without cutting, so it is designed for single entry and a single event. That is a security feature: the band cannot be transferred.
What is the difference between a code printed on the band and one printed on the tag?
A code sublimated onto the band is the same on every wristband. A code printed on a tag can be different on every wristband, and it sits on a rigid, flat surface, so the scanning angle matters less. See the full comparison above.
What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?
Lead time is 3–11 working days, excluding shipping.
