The QR code tagged wristband is built for the situation where every attendee has to be identified individually: single entry, permission tiers, a cashless balance, or simply knowing who came in and when.
The code goes onto a threaded rigid PVC tag rather than the band itself. There is a practical reason: on the flat face of the tag the code always sits in the same plane, so the scanning angle matters less. At a busy gate that is seconds per person, and at a thousand people it is the difference in queue length.
Capacity and scanning reliability. Within the printable 25 × 20 mm, roughly 60 alphanumeric or 100 numeric characters scan reliably. A 10–20 character identifier is ideal: it produces a large module size that reads instantly at night, in motion, and on a scratched tag. If the code points to a web page, use a short redirect link (yourdomain.com/x/AB12CD) rather than a long URL with parameters. Gate throughput improves noticeably.
If you run entry with handheld scanners, consider the DataMatrix option. It carries more data in the same footprint because its quiet zone is smaller. The trade-off is that native phone camera apps do not always read it, so it suits dedicated readers only.
How production works. You send the code list as CSV or XLS, one code per line. The finished wristbands arrive in that same order: if the list is grouped, say the first 200 rows are VIP, the shipment is grouped the same way and nobody has to sort by hand. The list comes from your database, so the identifiers stay with you throughout.
You can request a human-readable serial number below the code. Plenty of organisers skip this and regret it: if a tag is damaged or a reader fails, staff can process entry manually from the number.
The tag has two slots, one narrow and one wide, and the band is threaded through them. No rivet and no stitching means no single point that can tear out. In return, the tag cannot be removed from a closed wristband without cutting it, so it cannot be handed to someone else.
There is no NFC chip. That is a deliberate choice rather than a limitation: a printed code covers most access control and identification jobs at [TO FILL IN: concrete price advantage, e.g. "around 15%"] lower cost. If you also want cashless payment from a balance held on the band, that needs a chip → NFC wristbands

Common questions
How many characters fit in the QR code? Around 60 alphanumeric or 100 numeric characters scan reliably within the 25 × 20 mm printable area. Longer content can be produced, but the code becomes denser and reads more slowly on a phone in poor light.
Can the code be scanned with a phone? Yes. Native phone camera apps read QR codes without a separate application. If you choose the DataMatrix option, a dedicated reader is recommended.
What happens if a tag is damaged or a reader fails? This is why we recommend the human-readable serial number below the code. Staff can continue processing entry manually from that number until the problem is resolved.
Who generates the codes? You do. We print what arrives in your CSV or XLS file, in the order of the file. Your identifiers never leave your system.
